Founder and CTO

Simon FafardDr. Simon Fafard brings 15 years of Optoelectronics experience covering the complete product development cycle: an established scientist with vision and recognized globally with accomplishments from innovative R&D, material research and engineering, new product design and prototyping, with deep knowledge of target markets from experience in technical customer support and product line management.

He thrives in various environments, having dedicated 7 years of his career establishing a prestigious nano-optics program in the national lab of IMS/NRC as a Senior Research Officer. He then evolved to the startup environment at Kymata Canada and to an established company with a complete portfolio of state-of-the-art products as a product Line Manager at Alcatel Optronics.

Dr. Fafard was an NSERC Postdoc fellow at the NSF-funded QUEST center at the University of California, Santa Barbara, and he holds a Ph.D. in Physics from University of Ottawa. He published over 125 articles in the scientific literature, wrote book chapters and several patents in the field of Nanostuctures.

Director, Semiconductor Manufacturing

Norbert PuetzNorbert has over 20 years of epitaxy and wafer processing experience in the optoelectronic semiconductor industry. Prior to joining Cyrium, he was with Agility Communications (JDSU) in Santa Barbara, a manufacturer of widely tunable lasers and transponders, where he held the position of Vice President, Optical Components.

In his nearly twenty years with Nortel (formerly Bell-Northern Research) he applied his expertise in various roles of increasing responsibility. In 1985, Norbert was a member of the scientific staff in the development and characterization of III-V semiconductor epitaxial materials and processes. Several years later, under his leadership, BNR's MOCVD group introduced their world-class epitaxy processes to manufacture leading-edge optical transmission products.

In 1999, as Sr. Manager within Nortel, he was responsible for the wafer production, material characterization and device failure analysis for their optoelectronics' operation. From 2001 he directed the entire optoelectronic wafer fabrication engineering team of over 100 staff.

Norbert received his Ph.D. in solid-state physics (emphasis on semiconductor technology) from the Technical University of Aachen, Germany.
